Shopify FAQ
Answers for merchants installing or using GroundingGeo on Shopify. For platform-agnostic GEO concepts, see the general FAQ.
What does the Shopify app do?
It scores your storefront across seven GEO pillars, then lets you publish a
verified /agents.md override into your live theme when you choose.
Shopify already serves a native default; GroundingGeo enriches it with
merchant-grounded who/what/where content. Pillars themselves are platform-agnostic
— full definitions are in the
general FAQ.
Do I need to edit my theme manually?
Usually no. Publish uploads templates/agents.md.liquid via Shopify’s
Admin Theme API. Rescan updates scores without rewriting the live file. You can
also download the current guide or revert to Shopify’s native default from the
dashboard while the app is installed.
What happens if I uninstall?
Session tokens are cleared immediately. Shop configuration is purged after
Shopify’s shop/redact webhook (about 48 hours later if you stay
uninstalled). Theme files are not auto-removed on uninstall — use
Revert to Shopify default agents.md before uninstalling if you want the
native file back. Details:
Privacy Policy.
Where does my data live?
App configuration and sessions are stored in our database. Public GEO files are served from your Shopify theme/CDN. See Privacy.
Why robots.txt?
If robots.txt blocks AI crawlers, a perfect /agents.md still won’t
help. The app audits common AI user-agents and warns before publish when crawlers
are blocked.
Is there a non-Shopify version?
Not as a live product yet. Shopify is available now — see GroundingGeo for Shopify. Other platforms are on the waitlist from the home page.
